CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA 2026 WITH NATIONWIDE EVENTS AND LAKSHMINARAYANA GLOBAL MUSIC FESTIVAL IN KAZAKHSTAN

The Embassy of India, Astana and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) will organize nationwide celebrations of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 across Kazakhstan under the global theme “Yoga for Healthy Aging”.

  1. The celebrations will form part of a worldwide movement observed annually on 21 June following the adoption of a United Nations General Assembly Resolution initiated by India in 2014 and supported by 177 countries, including Kazakhstan. The Ministry of Ayush and Indian Council of Cultural Relations of the Government of India attach great importance to the celebration of IDY being its flagship programme across the world.
  2. The International Day of Yoga will be celebrated at Astana Arena on 21 June 2026 at 08:00 hrs and is expected to bring together thousands of participants, including representatives of government institutions, diplomatic missions, healthcare professionals, educational institutions, sports organizations, yoga communities and the general public.
  3. In addition to Astana, Yoga Day celebrations will be held across more than twenty cities of Kazakhstan in partnership with local Akimats, educational institutions, wellness centres and yoga organizations, reflecting the growing popularity of yoga throughout the country.
  4. The Embassy of India warmly welcomes the increasing support for yoga in Kazakhstan. In an interview published in January 2026 by the national newspaper Turkistan, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted that yoga has become part of his life, stating: “I have become accustomed to daily yoga practice.” Such recognition by the leader of the country underscores the growing awareness of healthy lifestyles, preventive healthcare and well-being within the Kazakh society.
  5. The IDY 2026 celebrations will also highlight Ayurveda reflecting the growing cooperation between India and Kazakhstan in traditional medicine, wellness and healthy living following the signing of the MOU on Traditional Medicine between the two countries in November 2025.
  6. As part of the International Day of Yoga celebrations, with a view to promote cultural cooperation between India and Kazakhstan, the Embassy of India and SVCC in association with People’s Artist of Kazakhstan, led by Kazakh Maestro Mr. Abzal Mukhitdin who established Astana Philarmonic Orchestra in 1997, will also present the Kazakhstan edition of the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival (LGMF) 2026, one of the world’s leading international music festivals, founded by renowned violin Maestro Padma Vibhushan Dr. L. Subramaniam and Viji Subramaniam.  The festival will feature performances by Dr. L. Subramaniam, the versatile playback singer of India’s Bollywood, Padma Shri Dr. Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam, Dr. Bindu Subramaniam, Dr. Ambi Subramaniam and Mahati Subramaniam at prominent venues in Aktobe, Kostanay, Kokshetau and Astana as detailed below –

  1. The concerts will showcase Indian classical, orchestral and global fusion music, promoting cultural dialogue and people-to-people ties between India and Kazakhstan.
