The judge selection system is being improved within the framework of cooperation between the Astana hub and the Supreme Judicial Council

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Astana between the Astana Civil Service Hub and the Supreme Judicial Council. During a meeting between the Chairman of the Management Committee of the Astana Civil Service Hub, Alikhan Baimenov, and the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, Denis Shipp, the parties agreed on cooperation in improving the processes for selecting judges, increasing their potential and familiarizing themselves with the best international practices.

In his welcoming speech, Denis Shipp noted that the selection of judges uses methods and tools that are widely used in the civil service. He also introduced the functions and tasks facing the Council, including the issues of competitive selection of judges, strengthening their independence and immunity, along with further improvement of the mechanisms of disciplinary liability of judges.

Alikhan Baimenov, in turn, emphasized that the Hub attaches importance to partnership with the Supreme Judicial Council, since trust in the judicial system and the administration of fair justice largely depend on the quality of selection of the judiciary. Therefore, the Hub intends to continue to provide expert and analytical support in matters of selection of judges.

Since September 2021, within the framework of the partnership between the Hub and the Supreme Judicial Council, joint projects have been implemented to improve judge selection tools, introduce digitalization and determine the level of public trust in the judge selection system.

The Astana Civil Service Hub, whose members include
43 countries, has established partnerships with more than 90 institutional partners around the world with knowledge and expertise in the field of civil service reform.
