“Suicide Squad”, film of 2016, from director David Ayer (“Fury,” “End of Watch”), starring Oscar nominee Will Smith (“The Pursuit of Happyness”), Oscar winner Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club”), Oscar nominee Viola Davis (“The Help,” “Doubt”), Margot Robbie (“I, Tonya”, “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Focus”), and Joel Kinnaman (Netflix’s “House of Cards”) is the best … villains team that must save the world from the threat.
After Superman’s death, intelligence agent Amanda Waller gathers a group of dangerous criminals. There are crazy gymnast-psychiatrist Harley Quinn, hired killer Deadshot, gangster pyrokinetic El Diablo, thief Captain Boomerang, mutant – cannibal Killer Crock and specialized mercenary Slipknot. Amanda pulls all of them out of the prison “Belle-Reeve” and places under the command of Colonel Rick Flag. The detachment is going to be used as cannon fodder in high-risk missions for the government of the United States of America. Each member of the team is implanted in the neck with a nano-bomb that detonates if any of the detachment tries to rebel or run away.
Promising promotional materials of the film “bribed” the viewers – they were promised an absolutely new concept of the Team of Villains, who should save the World on their own, they were promised an absolutely new Joker and absolute madness during the watching, but in fact … In fact, the “Suicide Squad” was the most criticized film of 2016, starting the era of bad films for DC Cinematic Universe. 27% on Rotten Tomatoes and 40 on Metacritic let know that, despite the love and passion of producer and director Zack Snyder for original comics, he cannot replace Christopher Nolan. Christopher Nolan shot the trilogy about the Dark Knight (Batman) in 2005-2012 and critics agreed that his films are the best thing that happened to Batman for the whole time when Zack Snyder and David Ayer tear down the image in their films.
The main drawback of the picture can be noted the lack of a worked out plot and script, a strong emphasis on some characters and improper accompaniment in the form of music and graphics.
– The plot of the film in the title of which is the word “Squad” first of all, should be about a few people, about the team. When six people are involved in the scenario – six people should act and develop, when in reality only the characters of Will Smith (Deadshot) and Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) have a plot development. In addition to the fact that the characters are not fully disclosed or simply forgotten, they do not develop. According to the scenario rules, the development of the character in the course of the story must go in such way that the same character at the beginning of the narrative and at the end is very different, because the character passed the tests, gained experience and changed, but it is not visible in the course of the film.
A good example of the full development of all the characters in the team can serve as “Guardians of the Galaxy” from the Marvel studio and director James Gunn. By the same structure, the six main characters in the course of the plot’s events should be the team – Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Batista), Groot (Vin Diesel), Raccoon Rocket (Bradley Cooper) – and save the world from the greater Evil. The structure of the script is constructed in such way that all the main characters are revealed with the development of events, are shown from different sides and show their interaction with each other. Even despite the advantage of the “Suicide Squad” in front of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” (the characters of the “Squad” are more popular and in demand than the long-forgotten “Guardians”), the “Suicide Squad” could not show a good story and interaction, as critics around the world.
-Operator Roman Novikov’s work, albeit at a high level, could not hide the fact that technical additions to the post-production level made it invisible. The movie trailers fascinated the presence of neon and Queen songs, but as it often happens – trailers were better than the movie. One of the reasons may be that the trailer is a commercial. It should motivate people to go to the film, but in the film itself, same techniques do not work. Music of different styles changed too fast, not allowing the viewer time for adaptation, and neon lights the dossier of the characters on the screen interfered with the perception. This made the “Squad” a frivolous competitor against the background of the same “Guardians”, in which the music was part of the plot and moved along with it, as if it was in Edgar Wright’s “Baby Driver”.
The film does not show anything new, and the whole story can be found on the Wikipedia page of the film, so you can conclude that it’s not worth the time.
