A film about Spanish prisoners of Karlag will be shot in Kazakhstan.

They are going to make a feature film about the prisoners of war of the Spaniards who were imprisoned in the Karlag Forced Labor Camp in Kazakhstan.

Cooperation with the Madrid film company Plano a Plano is now being discussed. Its filmmakers – producers Caesar Benitez, Emilio Amare, screenwriters Juan Carlos and Rocio Martinez – some time ago visited Almaty, Karaganda and Astana. It is assumed that the film will cover a difficult time for Kazakhstan – the period of the 40-50s of the last century. Spanish producers purposefully visited the historical museums of Karlag and “ALZHIR”( Akmola camp of wives of traitors) and started a detailed study of the topic of prisoners of war and repressed people exiled to the Karaganda region. According to the producer, they want to create together with Kazakhstan a feature film that tells about the fate of people and their relationship in those difficult times of repression, they also hope that the joint Kazakh-Spanish film will be of interest to a large international audience.
