April 15, Kazakhstan celebrates a special holiday – a day dedicated to the great love of the heroes of the Kazakh legend “Kozy-Korpesh – Bayan-Sulu”(Козы-Корпеш – Баян-Сулу). The holiday has appeared in the country since 2011. An ancient legend about the tragic love of two young people says: friends from childhood Sarybay(Сарыбай) and Karabay(Карабай) swore to marry their children, who before their birth were betrothed. Without waiting for the birth of his son, Sarybai dies while hunting. Growing up Kozy and Bayan, who had not seen each other yet, but were bound by the bonds of the marriage contract, fell in love with each other. However time passes, and perfidious Karabay changes plans. He promises to give his daughter for the local paluan Kodar(Кодар), who once rescued his flocks from jute. Kodar is a barrier between lovers. In this eternal triangle, Kozy dies first.
Sorrowful Bayan, in order to take revenge on the murderer, resorts to cunning. She promises to marry Kodar if he throws a well with key water for her. Kodar starts digging, Bayan ”helps” him to do this – letting he hold the girl’s hair. Bayan unexpectedly cuts the braids, and Kodar falls into the abyss and dies. Kozy is avenged. On his grave, the heroine of the legend stabs herself with a dagger. In Kazakhstan, as an alternative to the international holiday of Valentine’s Day celebrated on February 14, a date was proposed – April 15, dedicated to the legendary Kozy-Korpesh and Bayan-Sulu.
On this special day, the holiday of love on April 19 Youth group «Жас-Отан» and Physical-Technical Faculty of the Eurasian National University is performing for you a concert program. We are waiting for you all, and are glad to everyone. Do not miss this event.
